In 2023 His Holiness Kesava Bharati Dasa Goswami's YouTube channel, Daily Daily readings of Srila Prabhupada's Books received 256 new subscribers (now 1,400), and there were 27,400 views.

Considering Maharaja has been unable to read live for most of the year, this is extremely impressive! My dear spiritual master continues to reach people all over the world, bringing them to Krishna Consciousness, through his perfect dedication to Srila Prabhupada.

This week Gurudeva's podcast recordings reached 50,000 downloads.  These can be found on Apple Podcasts, and search for "Daily Readings of Srila Prabhupada's Books".

On Gurudeva's YouTube channel, "Daily Readings of Srila Prabhupada's Books", in the last month there were 13 new subscribers, 2,136 views, and 35,700 minutes watched.

And don't forget you can still access Gurudeva's FB channel, also called "Daily Readings of Srila Prabhupada's Books".

Finally, Gurudeva's beautiful audio recording for the BBT of Sri Caitanya-caritamrta is available for purchase from numerous sources.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada and our dear Gurudeva.

 

There isn't much news to share but I thought some of you might appreciate an update.  This is based on an update from pm 20 June 2023, UK time.

 

As mentioned in the last Health Update, Gurudeva was discharged from hospital and is now recuperating in Hythe.  He continues to make progress and signs are positive.  He can walk unaided for a few steps and is eating and gaining strength.  

 

As we all know, Gurudeva will try to be active, and probably too soon, but the doctor has noticed that when he spends time answering calls, reading and trying to reply to messages and emails, etc, it is having a detrimental effect on his recovery.  Consequently they are urging him to focus on his health first, and emails and messages can wait.  So please continue to minimise correspondence right now.  

 

Two of you have separately suggested you might try to visit - please be advised that currently it is better for Gurudeva's health if he is given time to fully recover undisturbed, and therefore I strongly urge you not to visit until the team in UK say it would be possible.  

 

Please remain positive - Gurudeva's recuperation is in accordance with what is expected, considering what he has been through, age, etc.  There are certainly positive signs, and progress is being made, but we should understand that his recovery may take some time.  I do not intend to send out another update until there is a noteworthy change in the situation, so realistically I think we should expect it to be weeks, maybe a month before there is any news to pass on.  

 

The important thing right now is to disturb Gurudeva as little as possible and give him the time and space he needs to recover.

Great news to share - Gurudeva was discharged from hospital late on 6th June 2023.  

Clearly Gurudeva will be tired now, and his inboxes will be full.  It will take him some time to clear existing correspondence, so please let us all give him the time he needs before adding more to his mountain of emails and messages!

Once again I would like to thank Radha Raman pr for keeping me updated so that I could share with you all during Gurudeva's period in hospital.

Not much news to report but, nevertheless, I am sure we all like to hear whatever the latest might be.  

Gurudeva is making progress and continues with physiotherapy to help regain his ability to walk unaided.  Currently we have no confirmation of an underlying problem, nor confirmed information regarding future steps.  Overall, although naturally we all hope and pray for faster progress, the news still continues to be positive.

Dear god-brothers and sisters,

All glories to Srila Prabhupada and our dear Gurudeva.

 

I am writing this as a few of you contacted me asking why the promised Friday update wasn't received.  There isn't much news to share at this time, hence us not sending anything out for a few days.

 

The important point is that Maharaja is continuing to make some progress with his rehabilitation, and has been undertaking physiotherapy.  He has been having discussions on Srila Prabhupada's books, albeit quietly.  He has also been able to eat a little.  So this is all cautiously optimistic news.  There is no confirmed overall diagnosis regarding any specific underlying problem at this time, nor about any confirmed discharge date.  As soon as we know that we will share with you all.  

 

It is of course to be expected that Maharaja is still not up to taking Skype calls nor replying to correspondence, so I would humbly ask you all to be patient and understanding and avoid overwhelming him with correspondence for a little while yet.  

 

So, whilst we don't have any solid news to share right now, certainly compared to a week ago there has been a good improvement, but we should continue to keep our dear Gurudeva's health very much in our prayers.

This report is based on information received pm 21 May 2023 UK time.

 

Apologies that there was no update for a few days.  Radha Raman prabhu and Abhaya prabhu report that yesterday (Sunday) was the best day since Gurudeva was admitted to hospital.  Gurudeva ate something, had sastra discussions and answered some questions - all great news.  Some messages were read out to Gurudeva.  It was expected that the doctors were intending to have a discussion last week with regards to the way ahead, but this has been postponed, we believe, until Thursday of this week.  

 

The next update will be whenever we have a noticeable change in situation.

This update is from late pm 17th May 2023 (UK time).

 

Not much to report on our dear Gurudeva's physical situation, although I am advised that there were some positive signs of progress again yesterday with Gurudeva engaging Radha Raman prabhu in discussions and commenting on the Nectar of Instruction which they were reading to him.  So this is all positive news.  Nevertheless, understandably Gurudeva remains with low energy levels having not eaten properly for some time, and certainly he is not up to replying to communication or taking Skype calls, so please continue to minimise emails and messages, and maximise your prayers!  On Tuesday there was a discussion amongst his medical team with regards the way ahead, but as of now this news has not been shared with us.  Gurudeva knows we are all thinking of him and praying for his return to full health.  I hope to give you a further update on Friday (UK time).

 

So in summary, whilst energy levels are understandably remaining low, there are positive signs of progress.

You will all be pleased to know that Gurudeva had another good day and his physical well-being has continued to improve.  He was conversing, asking about various meetings, had a soup-meal (for ekadasi), chanted japa, and rested normally.  He told Radha Raman prabhu that he was feeling a little better.  So, all good news.  Please continue to pray for our dear Gurudeva's recovery to full health and may all the pain and discomfort disappear.

Good news!  Maharaja had the best day yet since being admitted to hospital last weekend.  He ate some yoghurt, asked questions and had a discussion with Radha Raman prabhu for a good 45 minutes in the afternoon, and then chanted japa for the next hour and a half.  Any specific underlying illness or virus still hasn't been identified, but nevertheless I am sure you will all be delighted to hear of our dear Gurudeva having a much better day.  This is all excellent news.  

 

Once again, I would sincerely like to thank Radha Raman prabha and Abhaya prabhu for looking after our precious Gurudeva and for feeding me these daily updates to share with you all.

Not much to report today.  Apparently Gurudeva didn't have a particularly good day yesterday, but today showed positive signs once more.  He continues to eat very little.  Gurudeva had a CT scan which didn't reveal anything not previously known except for confirmation of water around his lungs, which is being treated with medicine.  Today he was scheduled to have an endoscopy - results as yet not known.  

 

Overall, I am told that whilst progress is slow, we can feel optimistic that things are moving in a positive direction.

This report is from 10th May.  

 

Gurudeva is improving and responding well to the antibiotics.  It seems that he has an infection of some sort, but as yet we are unsure exactly what or where that is, and further tests are being carried out including endoscopy and full-body CT scan.  Apparently blood test results are improving, which is an encouraging sign.  Gurudeva is reportedly looking and feeling better, although still not eating (partly due to the tests they are carrying out) so his energy levels are low.

Gurudeva is reportedly looking and feeling a little better and the medicines seem to be having a positive effect.  Further tests are being carried out.  Overall, the situation seems to be improving slowly but surely.  A number of Gurdeva's god-brothers have been in touch with him.  

 

Prayers and offerings were made for our dear Gurudeva in Sri Mayapur Dham yesterday.  Please continue to pray for his return to full health without any more pain or suffering.

I have just received the latest update from our dear god-brothers Radha Raman prabhu and Abhaya prabhu.

 

Gurudeva is reported to be in good spirits albeit, and understandably, low on energy having not eaten for a few days.  The very promising news is that he has been moved to a normal ward, which has to be a good sign.  There is currently no update from the doctors as they still wish to carry out further tests.  Currently he is stable, and being treated with painkillers and antibiotics.  

 

One of you asked for details of which hospital he is in so that you could include that in your prayers - Gurudeva is in the Ashford William Harvey Hospital.  

 

So, I would suggest that this is a positive report, as much as we could expect, although we should all keep our dear Gurudeva very much in our prayers.  We will share more news with you all as we get it.

This morning this email was sent to all Gurudeva's disciples:

I am sure that many of you will have been feeling the same anxiety as me over Gurudeva’s physical situation in recent weeks.  Gurudeva has asked me to send out a short message to you all, and this early morning I was therefore very appreciative of a call with Radha Raman prabhu and Abhaya prabhu.  We are all immensely grateful to the two of them for taking such good care of Gurudeva.

 

I don’t want to make this an unnecessarily long email and therefore won’t go into every detail.

 

Gurudeva has been admitted into hospital.  To summarise the situation – you are all aware that Gurudeva has had a number of medical issues in the last few years, however recently some other issues have been occurring, including an inexplicable recurring fever.  The last fever was worse, and also because of the other issues, on advice, Gurudeva agreed to be admitted to hospital.  Clearly this is a serious situation and it would be remiss of me to pretend otherwise.  However, with Krishna’s arrangement and blessing, Gurudeva is now receiving excellent medical care and a more holistic diagnosis and treatment is being carried out.  Gurudeva has lived with some of these bodily issues for some considerable time, so whilst this is a serious situation it is in fact good news that all these issues are now being examined.  Gurudeva wishes us all to see this in a positive manner.

 

I think it would be prudent if we all minimize correspondence with Gurudeva right now, restricting ourselves more to short goodwill messages.  I am sure that he will have a huge backlog of correspondence, so please understand that Gurudeva is not in a position at this time to be able to reply to us, but I am sure he appreciates our prayers and good wishes.

 

So, let us share in offering our prayers for our dear Gurudeva’s return to full health and strength.  We will keep you updated with any more news.

Dear Gurudeva posted the following self-explanatory message on FB:

Dear devotees,

I received another letter today from the NHS giving more details of the second CT scan I had on 11 March. The results from the MRI I had on 17 April haven’t come in yet.

There is clear indication of a serious problem with the back. As it stands now, as soon as I stand up I’m confronted with unbearable pain.

So again I’ll have to skip tonight’s reading. Radha Raman is getting me a phone appointment to up-level the pain relief on Monday.

Krishna willing, I will be able to return before too long to the Daily Readings.

Today marks the 5th anniversary since His Holiness Kesava Bharati Dasa Goswami first started his "Daily Readings of Srila Prabhupada's Books" live on Facebook.  During this time he has attracted devotees from all over the world and many have commented that the hour listening to Gurudeva has become a central regular feature of their daily practice.  Very many congratulations to our dear Gurudeva.

Guru Maharaja is continuing his live "Daily Readings of Srila Prabhupada's Books" on the Facebook channel of that name, starting at 7:15pm (UK time).  If you are a Facebook user, please consider joining him there.  Maharaja takes questions and shares comments, realizations, and observations at the end of each reading session.  

 

Currently he is reading the 10th chapter of the 5th canto of Srimad-bhagavatam.  Alternatively, all Maharaja's live readings from Facebook are uploaded to his YouTube channel, also called "Daily Readings of Srila Prabhupada's Books", where they are catalogued into convenient groups.  Hare Krishna.

You’ll be happy to know that Bhaktin Michelle’s new name is Manjuali Devi Dasi and Bhaktin Jasimine’s is Yasoda-priya Devi Dasi.

The initiation was held here at the Haven on 15 March, the disappearance day of Sri Madhavandra Puri, and a nice group of devotees from the Atma Lounge preaching centre in Folkestone attended.

Priya-kunda Prabhu and Syama Gaura Prabhvi organized everything and a wonderful feast was enjoyed by all.
